Worlds of Ursula K. Le Guin

DIRECTED BY ARWEN CURRY

STREAMING WEDNESDAY 9/22 - 7:30 PM ET

Best-known for groundbreaking science fiction and fantasy works such as A Wizard of Earthsea, The Left Hand of Darkness, and The Dispossessed, Ursula K. Le Guin defiantly held her ground on the margin of “respectable” literature until the sheer excellence of her work, at long last, forced the mainstream to embrace fantastic literature. Her fascinating story has never before been captured on film.

This Event has concluded and is available in the archive.  View film and interview with the filmmaker Arwen Curry.

Thursday 9.23.21

LAPSIS

DIRECTED BY NOAH HUTTON

STREAMING THURSDAY 9/23 - 7:00 PM ET

New York, an alternate present: the quantum computing revolution has begun and investors are lining their pockets in the quantum trading market. Building the network, though, requires miles of infrastructure to be laid between huge magnetic cubes by "cablers" - unprotected gig workers who compete against robots to pull wires over rough terrain.

Friday 9.24.21

THE MAN WITH THE MAGIC BOX

DIRECTED BY BODO KOX

STREAMING FRIDAY 9/24 - 8:00 PM ET

This Orwellian sci-fi thriller reverberates with such wildly different influences such as Terry Gilliam, Steven Spielberg, Philp K. Dick, Jean-Luc Godard’s Alphaville and Andrei Tarkovsky’s Solaris. Set in the dystopian future of 2030 Warsaw, a man wakes up without any memory of his previous life and finds an old radio from the 1950s that triggers mysterious visions of another past life. As he tries to piece together his past identity with the help of his beautiful but aloft boss, he runs afoul of a totalitarian government willing to do anything to stop him. A beguiling sci-fi love story that is at turns bleak, absurd, unsettling, and oddly affecting.

Saturday 9.25.21
