Upgrade Me

00:11:11 Israel Directed by Nadav Arnon
  • Student Live Action Short Film

The film was written, shot, and edited in 48 hours as part of the “Cinema Sprint” competitionElik, a 30-year-old man coping with a past injury and a life marked by loneliness, receives a phone call informing him that he has been selected to participate in a pilot program for a groundbreaking artificial intelligence. What begins as an amusing gimmick — changing voices and demonstrating impressive knowledge — gradually turns into an intimate and unsettling encounter with a system that seems to know everything about him: beyond facts, beyond memories, perhaps even beyond time itself. As Elik chooses to “upgrade” the system, its abilities expand — from accessing deeply personal information, to predicting the future, and eventually to seemingly altering reality itself. The line between technology and prophecy begins to blur, and the temptation to use such power — to fix past mistakes, to end wars, to heal a broken body — becomes more tangible than ever. This is the story of one man and one phone call, but also of the world we are living in. Where are we heading with artificial intelligence evolving at a dizzying pace? Can technology truly fill an emotional void, cure loneliness, restore lost relationships? And if we are given the ability to ask for anything — what will we discover we really want?Blending intimate science fiction with human drama, the film explores the thin line between control and dependence, between knowledge and power, and between technological solutions and the most basic human need of all: connection.
